As per AEMO Market Notice 54987, at 1625 hours on 28 September 2016 AEMO declared the spot market to be suspended in South Australia (SA) due to the power system collapsing to a black system in the SA region.

During the suspension spot prices in South Australia continue to be determined by the relevant market suspension pricing schedule developed and published under clause 3.14.5 (I) of the NER (AEMO Market Notice 55050).

The market suspension and use of the suspension pricing schedule falls within the contract period for the following ASX electricity futures contracts which expire today:

• Sep-16 Base Load Monthly Futures (SA, QLD, VIC, NSW)

  • ESU6, EQU6, EVU6, ENU6

• Q3 (Sep-16) Base Load Quarterly Futures (SA, QLD, VIC, NSW)

  • BSU6, BQU6, BVU6, BNU6

• Q3 (Sep-16) Base Load $300 Cap Futures (SA, QLD, VIC, NSW)

  • GSU6, GQU6, GVU6, GNU6

• Q3 (Sep-16) Peak Load Quarterly Futures (SA, QLD, VIC, NSW)

  • PSU6, PQU6, PVU6, PNU6

• Q3 (Sep-16) Average Ration Options (SA, QLD, VIC, NSW)

  • BSU6, BQU6, BVU6, BNU6

ASX is in ongoing contact with AEMO Settlements in relation to the certainty of final spot prices on Wednesday 5 October which will be used to determine the Expiry Settlement Prices of the contracts detailed above.
