In March 2018, ASX issued a market notice confirming the treatment of structured products issued by Prime Banks for the purpose of BBSW trade reporting. Structured products are contractual arrangements which contain optionality to convert into a Prime Bank Negotiable Certificate of Deposit (NCD) or Bank Accepted Bill (BAB).
Given the size of the structured product market and its materiality in terms of NCD and BAB issuance, ASX agreed to exclude structured products from trade reporting obligations for a period of 12 months, at which time ASX would review the size of the market and conversion rates. In June 2025, ASX conducted the annual review and advised that structured product would continue to be excluded from trade reporting obligations and would be subject to an ongoing annual review.
Following the review of the market in July 2026 and based on the relative size and low conversion rate to NCDs, structured products will continue to be excluded from trade reporting obligations under the BBSW Trade and Trade Reporting Guidelines for a further 12 months.
The treatment of structured products will be subject to review in June 2027.
