ASX Information Services advises ASX Trading Participants and back-office service providers who currently consume the ASX Signal B back-office real time broker trade feed, that we will be replacing this legacy service with a new FIX standard interface which will be live at the end of March 2022.  ASX will be adopting the latest FIX version 5.0 SP2 for the new Signal B service. Customers can expect to receive the same data they do today on the current service, from the new Signal B FIX service.

The current Signal B service will be retired at the end of March 2022.

Work on Signal B replacement began in 2020 and in the first instance, ASX engaged back-office service providers to discuss our plans for the new service.

The Signal B FIX Specification Manual will be distributed  to customers this week. We kindly ask that you review Signal B FIX Specification Manual and direct any questions about it in the first instance to Information.Services@asx.com.au

Following is some background in respect of this change, general product-specific information as well as details around when customers can expect to hear about the next steps for this new service rollout.

What is Signal B?

Signal B is the broker-specific TCP/IP post-trade feed for ASX Trade introduced in the 1990’s. It is generated and disseminated by a legacy internal ASX downstream system. It is used primarily in customer middle and back office functions for trade reconciliation. It is not an own order book download, nor a standard drop copy service direct from the matching architecture or settlement confirmation report from CHESS.

What is changing for Signal B?

As part of ASX‘s technology refresh which began in 2014 focusing on downstream systems that store and manage market data and reference data, ASX has reached the point in this program involving replacement of the Signal B technology.

ASX will be replacing Signal B with an industry-standard FIX interface. We will be adopting the latest FIX version 5.0 SP2. The FIX service will be produced by a new, contemporary internal ASX system, which is replacing the current legacy Signal B system.

Clients will benefit from leveraging any existing FIX interface handlers to consume data delivered by the new Signal B service.

When will the new service go-live?

ASX is targeting a launch date of March 2022.

Will the new service still be called Signal B?

The service will continue to be branded as Signal B.

Will customers still be able to connect as they do today?

The new Signal B service will be delivered over existing ASX ALC and ASX Net connections. It will not be available over  VPN or web-interface.

Will customers need to sign a new ASX agreement?

Signal B customers will not need to execute a new agreement.. Existing terms will cover the new service. Ordering the new service will be possible by completing a supplementary order form.

When will customers hear more?

ASX plans to provide information on availability of test environments during August. Communications regarding ordering the new production service will follow thereafter.
