Recent milestones include:

  • successful replacement of the ASX Trade ITCH switch with no customer impact, with testing completed and stable market reopening
  • completion of network aggregation infrastructure upgrades across Sydney sites with no participant testing required.

 

Overview

The Trading Platforms Network Replacement program is a critical component of ASX’s broader technology modernisation agenda. It delivers a full upgrade of the network infrastructure supporting ASX Trade and ASX 24, ensuring the platforms remain secure, resilient and fit for future market demands.

The program encompasses enhancements to core connectivity, hardware and supporting software, alongside strengthened security and resilience controls.

 

Objectives

The program is designed to:

  • improve network performance, capacity and stability for trading participants
  • reduce latency and enhance execution efficiency
  • strengthen security, resilience and operational reliability
  • simplify and standardise connectivity architecture
  • provide a scalable, future-ready platform aligned to global best practice and evolving regulatory expectations.

 

Scope

The network supporting ASX trading platformscurrently consists of three key components:

  • Co-location network (ALC connectivity)
  • International network (ASX Net Global)
  • Customer WAN connectivity (ASX Net Trading WAN)  

The program replaces and modernises each of these layers to create a more efficient, secure and streamlined architecture.

 

Delivery approach

The network replacement is being delivered in phased stages:

Phase 1: ASX Net Trading WAN

Replacement of edge routers at customer premises to support:

  • migration away from legacy gateway architecture
  • enhanced security and encryption
  • improved reliability of customer connectivity.

Outcome: Simplified and more secure participant access model

 

Phase 2: Co-location network

Deployment of new infrastructure within the Australian Liquidity Centre, including:

  • new switching and cabling environment
  • segregated 'greenfield' architecture
  • new cross-connect requirements for the ASX 24 replacement platform

Outcome: Modern, high-performance co-location environment supporting next-generation trading services

 

Phase 3: ASX Net Global 

Replacement of switching infrastructure across:

  • Sydney and domestic customer sitesi
  • nternational points of presence (Singapore, Chicago, Hong Kong)

Outcome: Improved global connectivity performance and resilience.
